Michigan employment and education

The employment outlook in Michigan is grim, due to its reliance upon the auto industry in many cities. Michigan’s unemployment rate is at 7%, while the nation’s average is only 4.8%. Jobs continue to slide out of the state with outsourcing and the closing of large auto manufacturing facilities.

Education looks brighter with the results of the MEAP (Michigan Education Assessment Program) results for 2006. 79% of students in 3rd through 8th grades attained or surpassed grade level requirements. No Child Left Behind is being implemented with positive results too.
