Washington Employment and Education

Washington’s unemployment rate is down from 5.5% in 2005 to 5.3% in 2006. With major corporations like Boeing, Microsoft, and Nintendo in the Northwest, job opportunities are endless. From 2003 to 2004 over 70,000 new jobs were created in the state. From 2003 to 2004, job earnings increased 1.3%.

Education is a very important priority in this state. The states graduation rate is 87.1% and recently a new law has been enacted where every teen must pass an exam in order to receive their diploma. The state has also implemented the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL), which is a series of tests students take throughout their school years, to determine which schools are improving and if they improve they can receive extra funding rewards from the state.
