Italy has quite a few airports and as a traveler the following may be helpful.

Rome has two main Airports which are Rome Ciampino and Rome Fiumicino (also known as Leonardo Da Vinci Airport).

Most tourists would be using Rome Fiumicino airport as it is known for being a hub for international and domestic flights including charter traffic. Various airports include:

Note:  Italy's national airline that flies domestically and Internationally is Alitalia, it is more expensive than low cost airlines it is has very high standards on safety as "2002 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) placed Alitalia amongst the select group of Companies with the highest standards of quality in the maintenance field."
