Education through out time has evolved. Through society standards increasing education has developed from initially being available only for privileged families to education being made available to the general public.

In countries considered "advanced", basic education for its citizens are mandatory. Elementary and high school education are considered basic education, while further education is available for students wishing to specialize in a field.

Education involves the process of both learning and teaching. Parents are considered their child’s first teacher assisting in their childhood learning, but parents do not have the time or capability to teach their child everything they need or want to know. As a society we have passed some of this responsibility to professional educators: teachers.
