Greek underdogs stun hosts Portugal

12/6 - The Greek team performed impressively as they beat the hosts 2 -1 in the the Estádio do Dragăo in Portugal. Most noticeable for viewers was the different type of ball which glided along the soccer pitch at lightning pace and floated in the air, which gave an unparalled experience of fast action football which last the 90 minutes.

The greeks settled early and were able to score through Georgios Karagounis as he ran onto the ball outside the box and scored. This rattled the hosts and they played in a frenzy for the rest of the half and were beginning to show some good technique as the first half ended.

While changes were made in the first half none were more responsible for the outcome than Ronaldo. However unfortunately he would bring a penalty upon his team in which they would be a further goal down when Angelos Basinas scored. However rather then lie down the hosts pursued the elusive goal again and again. Although Portugal would continually push towards goal the greek defence stood firm and were able to stop challenges from the likes of Figo limiting many chances to outside the box..

While Cristiano Ronaldo's late consolation goal would ease the pain of Portugal devastated fans, history will now show that they are the first team to lose on home soil since the European championship began.
